On The Web:
Reddit is abuzz that Tampa is “not a foodie city.” The thread has 860 comments arguing about the presence of Tampa in the food sphere. Of course the quality of those comments are filled with trolling. The reality is that the James Beard Foundation is based in New York City. Smaller towns like Tampa simply do not usually get the attention of food nonprofits like that.
I am sure that it is disappointing for New Yorkers who moved to Florida to only see places like Miami on the list, but many places in Miami are also directly connected to New York or have been building their restaurant concepts for over a decade and have more global and national exposure. Ultimately, a James Beard award would be nice but is also very hard to attain and somewhat unrealistic for a growing city.
