Popular South Tampa restaurant catches fire: Tampa Fire Rescue battled a fire at 717 South on Howard Avenue on Thursday morning at around 6:10 a.m. The fire was put out in 30 minutes. An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire. (tampabay.com, wfla.com)
Popular brewery shuts down Ybor City location amid decline of business: Another bar and restaurant is leaving Ybor City after a slowdown in business. Zydeco Brew Werks announced on social media this week that the brewery is closing down in Ybor after nearly 6 years of business. A location at MOSI Tampa will remain open. The brewery will have a going away party next weekend. (carloseats.com)
Health advisory issued for 4 beaches in Hillsborough Co.: The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) has issued an alert in Hillsborough County for Davis Island, Cypress Point, Ben T. Davis Beach, and Picnic Island beaches due to dangerous levels of fecal bacteria in the water called enteric bacteria. Swimming is not advised at this time due to the bacteria. (wfla.com)
Spooky Dracula-themed wine bar comes to downtown Tampa: Dracula’s Legacy is a new wine bar in Tampa from St. Pete at 811 N Tampa St. The food menu includes flatbreads, charcuterie, garlic knots, caprese salad, bruschetta, and more. Wine is available by the glass and by the bottle and includes a variety of whites and reds as well as wine flights. (thatssotampa.com)
Pasco County Sheriff seeking re-election: Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco is seeking a fourth term in office. Nocco was appointed to the role in 2011 by former Governor Rick Scott. Pasco County Sheriff’s Office was the subject of national headlines after the Tampa Bay Times found in 2020 that the police department was using predictive policing to monitor and surveillance residents, including minors, which led to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate. Some residents said they were harassed by the sheriff’s office and fled the area, criticizing the attack on their rights. Civil rights groups also sued over the practice which was later shut down.
