Time running out to enter Tampa “Epic Chef” competition with deadline approaching: Time is running out to apply for the Feeding Tampa Bay "Epic Chef" competition at the Epicurean Theatre in South Tampa. Anyone can enter the competition this year, previously only restaurant chefs participated. The winner of the chef battle will take home the Marty Blitz Award, $5,000, as well as a custom knife roll. Big John’s Alabama BBQ named Florida’s 2024 Best Barbeque Joint: Southern Living readers voted Big John's Alabama BBQ in Tampa as Florida's 2024 Best Barbecue Joint, according to an announcement. Big John’s is located at 5707 N 40th St. The late Rev. John A. “Big John” Stephens opened Big John's Alabama Barbeque in 1968 and came to Florida from Eufaula, Alabama. TPA flight delays and cancellations continue: Flights continue to be delayed at Tampa International Airport (TPA) with 289 flights delayed on Sunday afternoon and sixteen canceled. FAA representatives are blaming weather for the delays. Always check your flight status before heading to the airport. (wfla.com)
Manatee Sheriff’s Office investigating deadly backyard shooting: An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting in a backyard in Bradenton on Friday night. The incident happened near 8th Avenue Drive and 59th Street West in Bradenton, according to a news release. The identity of the victim, a minor, is being withheld. (wtsp.com)
Bolts shut out Flyers 7-0 on Saturday night hockey: The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Philadelphia Flyers 7-0 on Saturday night. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 saves, his second best performance this season. The Bolts will host the New York Rangers next on Thursday at Amalie Arena. (baynews9.com, nhl.com)
