New women-owned and independent bookshop opening Dec. 2 in Tampa Heights: Black English Bookstore is opening in Tampa Heights on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 401 E Oak Ave. The bookstore is women-owned and independently operated with a focus on Black-authored books. Massive sinkhole opened earlier this month at Busch Gardens Tampa: A 15-foot deep sinkhole opened at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay underneath a wastewater treatment pond on Nov. 18, bringing 2.5 million gallons of water underground. The sinkhole was reported by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Officials are monitoring the incident. (tampabay.com, cltampa.com)
The Dalí Dozen coming Dec. 6 to St. Pete: Celebrate local artists and the holidays with a special event on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Dalí Museum in St. Pete called The Dalí Dozen. The art event will feature 12 local artists from Tampa Bay. Guests can enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cash bars. Tickets are $35 for non-members and $30 for members. (tampabaynewswire.com)
Tampa and St. Pete earn top scores for LGTBQ inclusion: Tampa and St. Petersburg received perfect scores from the National Human Rights Campaign's nationwide LGTBQ inclusion assessment. The perfect scores came despite the group designating the State of Florida under a “state of emergency” due to state laws restricting rights of LGTBQ residents. The score is reflection of efforts by the cities to be inclusive through policies and government work. Orlando and Miami also received perfect scores. (wmnf.org)
Bolts lose to Avalanche in 4-1 loss: The Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a 4-1 defeat against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday evening. Anthony Cirelli made a point for the Bolts. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 19 of 22 shots. Next the Lightning will face the Arizona Coyotes tonight at 9 p.m. EST. (espn.com)
