St. Pete City Council member John Muhammad will not seek re-election: St. Petersburg District 7 City Council member John Muhammad has announced that he will not seek re-election in a message posted to his website. Muhammad said he is "deeply thankful for the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity” and feels he can be more effective as a private citizen. Def Burger food truck opening brick-and-mortar at Hillside Center: Def Burger of Savannah, Georgia, is coming to St. Pete's Hillside Center, according to Tampa Bay Business Journal. It is the first brick-and-mortar concept for the popular food truck. Guests can visit the truck while the location is building at 1506 54th Avenue North in St. Petersburg. Burgers are topped with Slaw and choices include Regular, Blue Cheese or Ranch instead of traditional toppings. Oh, and don’t ask for ketchup. (subscription: bizjournals.com, defburger.com)
Tampa City Council approves $50 million reimbursement resolution for much needed fire facilities: Tampa City Council has passed a $50 million reimbursement resolution which will fund two new fire facilities. The vote was unanimous and remained a priority for the Tampa Fire Union for years as the population soared in the area. More work still remains to be done though. (abcactionnews.com)
Local shop displays Black history year-round: Ersula's History Shop located at 1421 Tampa Park Plaza in Tampa offers a look at Black history with documents, sports memorabilia, Tampa history books, and more. The shop is owned by Ersula Odom, who is an author and history buff. Hours are Monday to Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. (baynews9.com)
