5 Bucks Drinkery opening second location in Pinellas on Feb. 1, plans further expansion: 5 Bucks Drinkery, a popular watering hole in downtown St. Petersburg, is expanding in Pinellas County to 7498 Seminole Blvd. in Seminole. An opening date is planned for Feb. 1. The new location will not have the same party vibe as the one in downtown St. Pete. The owner also plans to expand to Hillsborough County and Pasco County, according to Creative Loafing. (cltampa.com)
Recycle your Gasparilla beads for a discount at The Florida Aquarium: The Florida Aquarium located 701 Channelside Dr. in downtown Tampa is offering visitors a discount if they recycle their Gasparilla beads. For every 5-gallon bucket of recycled beads, guests will receive 50 percent off one adult general admission ticket. The offer is available from today, Jan. 20 to Sunday, Feb. 11. The promotion is part of Tampa’s Bead-Free Bay initiative. (wfla.com)
WWE stars to lead the 2024 Ashley Children’s Gasparilla Parade today: WWE Superstars Bianca Belair and Montez Ford will serve as the Grand Marshals for the 2024 Ashley Children’s Gasparilla Parade presented by Chick-fil-A Tampa Bay today, Saturday, Jan. 20. New York Mets’ first baseman and Tampa native Pete Alonso will also be honored as this year’s Chick-fil-A Tampa Bay Community Hero for his philanthropic work. (carloseats.com)
MacDill Air Force Base discovers more African American graves at base: Over 120 possible graves as well as an African American cemetery have been identified at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Lt. Laura Anderson with the U.S. Air Force said the community is working together to locate the graves. The Tampa Bay History Center first notified the base of possible graves in 2019. Searching are expected to continue this year for more potential graves. The NAACP wants a memorial to be built for the dead. (abcactionnews.com)
