Gasparilla Pirate Fest invasion happening Saturday, Jan. 27: Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla will invade Tampa on Saturday, Jan. 27, and take over Bayshore Boulevard after City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor refused to hand over the keys to Tampa. The Gasparilla Pirate Fest invasion will start at 1 p.m. and the parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard. (wtsp.com)
Train derailment temporarily closes Causeway Blvd. on Tuesday: Causeway Boulevard east of South 50th Street was closed on Tuesday after a train derailment. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to officials. It is unclear what caused the crash. (wtsp.com)
Nonstop service between Tampa and Orange County, California, launching this summer: Breeze Airways is adding nonstop service between Tampa and Orange County this summer, according to Tampa International Airport. The discount carrier will offer routes between Tampa International Airport and Santa Ana’s John Wayne Airport in Orange County starting May 31 on Fridays and Mondays. (carloseats.com)
Crystal River City Manager resigns from post abruptly: Crystal River's City Manager Douglas Baber abruptly resigned this week. The City Council accepted his resignation and have offered him a 6-month, $35,000 consulting contract, according to Florida Politics. Baber has worked in public service for over a decade. The criteria to be listed includes reviews, user submissions, and local "Community Managers" who work for Yelp. The Tampa Bay restaurants on the list were Mio’s Grill & Cafe in St. Petersburg at no. 12, Bayshore Mediterranean Grill in Tampa at no. 75, and Shaker & Peel in Oldsmar at no. 80.
