2 Tampa restaurants make list for top restaurants in America in 2023: OpenTable has released its list of “Top restaurants for 2023” in America with two Tampa restaurants making the cut. The Tampa restaurants on the list are Lilac at EDITION Tampa in Water Street Tampa and Bern’s Steak House in South Tampa. 7 restaurants in Florida made the list with the Sunshine State being behind California with 14 restaurants. Celebrate one year with La Setima Club on Sunday: La Setima Club, a natural wine bar in Ybor City is celebrating its one year anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $60 and feature wines from around the world paired with food from chefs at the wine bar. La Setima is owned by Coral Carrasquillo as well as Ryan Fouche and Aaron Schaub of Seminole Heights’ Jug + Bottle. (eventbrite.com)
Tampa Pride returning in 2024 after U.S. Supreme Court blocks DeSantis ban: Drag queens are celebrating victory at the U.S. Supreme Court, with the court blocking enforcement of anti-drag laws passed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida’s legislature. The DeSantis administration was sued by Hamburger Mary’s in Orlando over the drag show restrictions. Tampa Pride organizer Carrie West plans to bring the event back in 2024 after the victory. The event was canceled in 2023 due to the new law. (wfla.com)
Homeless youth rising in Hillsborough Co.: There are currently 4,265 homeless students in Hillsborough County. An event called Camp Street Lights set awareness to the issue and locals leaders want people to know that there are resources available to them. The Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative aims to help those suffering in the area. (wtsp.com)
TGH leads nation in organ transplants: Tampa General Hospital's Transplant Institute leads the nation in major organ transplant and performed 86 transplants last month. Organ donors have helped TGH keep up the momentum and helped others, including those in Tampa Bay, save their lives. TGH was the first hospital in Florida to use Organ Care System (OCS) technology.
