Red Lobster closing 99 locations including several in Tampa amid bankruptcy: Restaurant giant Red Lobster is closing numerous locations in the Tampa Bay area as the company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A widely publicized “Endless Shrimp” promotion reportedly cost the chain $11 million. The Tampa locations closing include 17021 Palm Pointe Dr., 2625 East Busch Blvd., and 10500 E. Ulmerton Road in Largo. (fox13news.com)
TPD releases footage in deadly SoHo Mother’s Day weekend shooting: Tampa Police Department has released surveillance footage in the deadly Mother’s Day weekend shooting in South Tampa. The footage shows bystanders running from the scene of the shooting in front of Jimmy John’s and a police officer on the scene as well as people screaming. Police are asking anyone with footage of the shooting to contact authorities. (wtsp.com)
Tampa’s Chef Johnathan Rodriguez to appear on Food Network: Sal Y Mar at Midtown Tampa's Executive Chef Johnathan Rodriguez will appear on "Supermarket Stakeout" on Wednesday, May 15 at 9 p.m. EST on the Food Network. The show has contestants create menu items in a parking lot with a set budget. (cltampa.com)
Pinellas County School Board approves ballot measure to increase taxes: The Pinellas County School Board has approved a new special property tax for voters to approve this November. The special tax rate would double if approved from $0.50 to $1 per $1,000 of taxable value for property owners. The tax is supported by several education interest groups. Drone light show coming to Hillsborough County Fairgrounds for Independence Day: Hillsborough County Fairgrounds is hosting a 4th of July drone light show this year. The show is called "Catch the Spirit & Celebrate America." Attendance is free, but parking will be $10 per vehicle. (thatssotampa.com)
