Flooding impacts some areas around Florida after storm: Several counties in Florida reported flooding on Sunday morning after a powerful storm passed through the area. Drivers are asked to use caution on roads as areas of South Tampa were impacted, according to a release from Tampa Police Department. Several low elevation areas in St. Petersburg and Pinellas County were also impacted with some flooding. Tampa Police and the Department of Public Works are working together on road closures. MLK Jr. 2024 parade updates released: The Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, Inc. and City of Tampa have announced some updates for the upcoming 2024 parade honoring the civil rights icon. The theme this year is “Passing the Torch" to focus on a new generation fighting for social justice. The City of Tampa MLK Jr. Parade is planned for Monday, Jan. 15, 2024 and will be led by Grand Marshal Gwen Miller, the former Chairwoman of the Tampa City Council and first African American woman elected to the Tampa City Council. Wicked Cantina restaurant concept moving north to St. Petersburg: Sarasota's Wicked Cantina is coming to St. Petersburg in early 2024, according to a news report from Tampa Bay Business Journal. The concept mainly sells Tex-Mex food, such as fajitas and enchiladas, as well as American food. The restaurant will be located at 3650 Tyrone Blvd. N. (bizjournals.com, cltampa.com)
State representative helping Puerto Ricans acquire documents in Tampa: Rep. Susan Valdes has announced an initiative with the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration to help Puerto Ricans obtain access personal documents. The office of Rep. Valdes is located at 2221 N Himes Ave. Appointments are available online. The only permanent office previously was only in Kissimmee, over two hours away from Tampa. (baynews9.com)
Popular Broadway show coming to Straz this spring: Broadway show "Mrs. Doubtfire" is coming to Tampa during its national tour this spring at Morsani Hall at the Straz in downtown Tampa. Performances will run from Apr. 2 to Apr. 7. Tickets are now available online. (thatssotampa.com)
